Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer Laxmmi, which is all set for OTT release today, recently held a special premiere in Delhi for the transgender community. The team got a lot of positive response while interacting with him after the screening.
Transgender rights activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi got emotional with the way transgenders are represented in the film and said that, any transgender is equal to any man or woman, which has come out in a very strong way in the film. I believe it is wonderful. And instead of criticizing we should appreciate Akshay ji that he is such a strong man and doing such a strong film.
Disturbed by the negativity surrounding the film, he further said, some publications are opposing it, and writing articles against it. How much do they know about reality? I am really surprised by this. what does this mean? There are many films in which I also acted, nobody bought it, it’s a business. These articles are being written on the eve of its release without watching any film.
According to Tripathi, the best thing about the film is that Akshay himself is playing this character and has shown the current situation of the transgender community.
Another 60-year-old transgender woman Kamal Guru also praised the actor’s performance and the way transgenders are presented in the film, saying, “Itnni lovely lagi ki aaj tak no film aisi lagi hai. I have been in the Hijra community for years. I cried two or three times while watching the movie. I pray to God that this film gets lots of love, lots of praise, I don’t want anything else.”
