Dilip Kumar, who is called Bollywood’s acting emperor and tragedy king, is no more with us. Dilip Kumar passed away on Wednesday, July 7 at around 7.30 am. A century of Hindi cinema has come to an end with the death of Dilip Kumar. People are paying tribute to their legendary actor with moist eyes remembering him. It has been every artist’s dream to work with one of the brightest stars of Bollywood, Dilip Kumar. While the fans wanted to see the three stalwarts of Hindi cinema – Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan together on one screen, many filmmakers in the film world also made a lot of efforts to bring these three actors together in one film.
Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan
One of the same filmmakers was Subhash Ghai who planned a film to bring Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan together in a film, which was named Motherland. Actually filmmaker Subhash Ghai was planning to make a film named Motherland, in which he thought of taking superstars of all three generations. It was a war drama with the idea of bringing together Dilip Kumar, Amitabh and Shahrukh. After finishing Yaadein (2001), Subhash Ghai had the idea of starting Motherland with all three superstars in 2003. The script of the film was also ready. Subhash Ghai wanted to cast Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Preity Zinta and Mahima Chaudhary for this film.
Then what happened that this film could not be made? According to Subhash Ghai’s statement in a 2017 report, his film Motherland could not be made because Shah Rukh Khan had refused to do the film. Subhash Ghai revealed that Shah Rukh felt at that time that the film had too many characters and wanted to do a solo film. So he refused to do it. After Shahrukh’s refusal, the film was never made and was put on hold forever.
Had this film been made, it would surely have proved to be a blockbuster. But sadly, this will not be possible now and the desire of the fans to see Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh together in a film also remained unfulfilled.
Although not in the film, but on the cover page of the 2011 issue of the magazine Filmfare, all the three superstars of Bollywood – Dilip Kumar, Amitabh and Shahrukh appeared together.
