It is often thought that there is such a thing in films made on gangsters, criminals and underworld… that why many filmmakers all over the world are so attracted to this genre of films? However, I am not a huge fan of films of this genre. But at the same time I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the crime based films made in Mumbai – Deewar, Dharmatma, Parinda, Agneepath, Satya, Vaastav, Gangster, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai…. Many big names of the film industry were associated in these films. There is value worth remembering in these films. Apart from leaving an indelible mark on my mind, these films also left an indelible mark on the sands of time.
There is a lot of speculation about Raees…The story of this film is inspired from real life…It is based on real life characters…Frankly speaking, to comment on the authenticity of the characters/scenes featured in the film or just to speculate I am not the right person to investigate, but being a cine-lover, I must admit that Raees brought me into his world. Most of the films based on the lives of criminals/goons have a definite script: a common man following the path of crime, becoming a well-known criminal, rising among the rich and influential, but in the end, everything is accounted for by the law. Equalize the book. Raees also offers a similar blueprint/plotline…the only difference is that, as compared to many films of this genre, this film is more realistic in approach.
Director Rahul Dholakia delivers a powerful power play in Raees and the mouse and cat chase between Rais and the honest cop Jaideep very effectively, in my opinion, this is the mainstay of the film. Having said this, I must admit, what takes the film to a heightened level is the amazing characters played by Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who did their part well.
Here is a brief plotline of the film…Raees, set in the 1980s [शाहरुख खान] The system tries to defeat the system and also succeeds on its own terms. Her natural penchant for entrepreneurship and her determination to never give up while achieving her goals, made her both endearing and intimidating. And then there is the policeman Jaideep. [नवाजुद्दीन सिद्दीकी]Entry of , who has taken a vow to end crime… and to end the ‘kingdom’ of the nobles.
It is indeed a very difficult task to recreate a bygone era, but the most difficult part is to involve the present audience, who have no idea about those characters and that era. The production has flawlessly recreated that era, Dholakia and his team of writers [हरित मेहता, आशीष वाशी, नीरज शुक्ला और खुद ढोलकिया] took full care that the written content of the film is powerful enough that the audience enjoys the film with engrossment. As a result, the film not only brings back memories of the 1980s but, it also makes you feel back to those days thanks to the characters and episodes that were highlighted in the film.
The drummer, not really known for being a hardcore commercial filmmaker
go. But when you see the way they work, you automatically realize that their inclination is more in reality rather than artificiality. But talking about Raees, Raees has a wonderful mix of both reality and spice. Story of the film Straight, Romance without any joints [शाहरुख खान-माहिरा] From which turns towards the game of ‘Kisse Badh Ke’ when the thief police clash. It is a big budget film and Shah Rukh and Dholakia know very well that the stakes are high. He has kept the reality, and has taken care that the pace and energy of the film hardly goes down… but, most importantly, he has not disappointed the millions of Shah Rukh Khan fans in the slightest. As a storyteller, he takes leaps, and does full justice to the written material and at the same time manages to squeeze his best performance out of every character in the film.
mistakes? Oh yes ! The first half of the film opens up your curiosity, and then makes you crave to watch the second half. But here the problem arises. After the intermission, the pace of the film slows down and the romantic songs and some sequence scenes fail. Thankfully, the film picks up pace again when Raees’ life takes a dramatic turn, which is the high-voltage climax of the film.
The soundtrack of the film is good, although the dance and songs of the film could have been a bit more sluggish. The songs of the film ‘Laila Main Laila’ and ‘Zaalima’ have already become quite popular among the audience. However, the song ‘Laila Main Laila’ comes at a turning point in the film and takes the story forward. The background score is impressive, especially the signature tune which is used liberally in the plot.
film cinematography [K.U. मोहनन] Captured the local locations on Celluloid with great brilliance. editing [दीपा भाटिया] It’s tight. The dialogues were made keeping the audience in mind, which leave their impact. Many great dialogues like ‘Baniye ka mann aur miyabhai ka dering’ and ‘Ammi jaan kehte hai, koi dhaana chhota nahi hota aur dhandhse se bada koi dharam nahi hota’ have already made their way to the audience. Let me also draw attention to Nawazuddin’s lines; He will give enthusiasm and excitement to the people, especially in the first half. The action sequences are very powerful.
The stellar performances in Raees are consistently noteworthy. Shahrukh is a fine artist as well as a show-stealer. His gray character in the film is reminiscent of his award-worthy performances early in his career. Nawazuddin delivers his stellar performance matching the talent of his co-star. The performances of both, Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin let you immerse yourself in the characters as well as the story of the film. Mahira Khan looks very beautiful and plays her character with full confidence.
Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub [शाहरुख खान के विश्वासपात्र] Let’s immerse yourself completely in a solid role and make a big impact. Atul Kulkarni makes his presence felt with a committed performance. Sheeba Chaddha [शाहरुख खान की मां] In a brief role. Narendra Jha [मूसा भाई]Jaideep Ahlawat [नवाब]Utkarsh Mazumdar [चिकित्सक], Pramod Pathak [मुख्यमंत्री] and Uday Tikekar [पाशा भाई] They are perfect in their parts. Sunny Leone creates sensation in ‘Laila Main Laila’ item number.
Overall, Raees is definitely a hit film. There is no doubt that Shahrukh Khan is a sensational actor. The love, love and stardom that Shah Rukh got in his early films will also be found in Ek Baar Phir Raees. Some facts that go a long way in making this film a hit include Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s stellar performance, its content written to garner crowds and of course its gripping climax. As far as the box office is concerned, nothing can stop it from being a hit. This is clearly a winner. Don’t miss it at all!
