Till now Bollywood has witnessed many such films where attempts were made to depict a part of life. Dear Zindagi starring Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt, released this week at the box office, is a film in the same genre. Will Dear Zindagi be able to ‘breathe’ of life at the box office or will it prove to be ‘Prembhari’ (Dearly) for its makers, let’s review.
Dear Zindagi, a part of life story, gives an introspective insight into the various challenges faced by every human being and how to fight them. The film begins with the introduction of the very talented cinematographer Kaira (Alia Bhatt), for whom work is everything and whose dexterity is at the top of life. She never compromises on her work, she dreams of directing an entire film one day. One day, she receives an offer from Raghavendra (Kunal Kapoor) to co-direct an iconic feature film on foreign soil that turns out to be her dream come true. Since Kaira is in love with Raghavendra, at the same time she is happy thinking that working with him will be a lot of fun. Before her dream comes true, she receives news that breaks her. He learns that Raghavendra is engaged to his ex-girlfriend abroad. This news completely breaks Kaira. And then she meets the well-known psychiatrist Dr. Jehangir Khan aka Jag (Shah Rukh Khan). Thereafter, she has a therapy session with Jag. Know the world through these therapy sessions
It turns out that Kaira is suffering from many issues silently since childhood. Gradually, over the course of several therapy sessions, a strong bond develops between Jag and Kaira, so much so that she openly tells Jag about her past and present events. While doing so, Kaira realizes that she has fallen in love with Jag. What happens to Kaira in the end, whom she chooses to spend her life with, does the counselor-patient relationship between Jag and Kaira Ak turn into a love affair, all this is revealed only after watching the film. .
Dear Zindagi Ki Kahani and Screenplay (Gauri Shinde) is an honest attempt in the genre film to depict a part of life. Gauri Shinde has really tried to present the complexities of life in a simple way. The irony of the film is that, despite the film’s characters being relatable, the film’s proceedings are quite the opposite. Due to which the audience is not able to connect with this film. On the other hand, since the film’s dialogues (Gauri Shinde) are very clear, it will surely resonate with the audience. The humor in the film is intact and the right amount has been added. Don’t miss these scenes from the film, and they are Shah Rukh Khan’s introduction, Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan’s first meeting and Alia Bhatt’s emotional impulse during the pre-climax scene.
When Gauri Shinde made her directorial debut with the Sridevi starrer ‘English Vinglish’, she not only touched the hearts of the audience with her ability as a director, but also created a stir with her storytelling style and directing abilities. was given An attempt was made to make Dear Zindagi similar to English Vinglish, appearing in almost every frame of the film, but what didn’t work for the film was its length (mostly in the second half) that its audience could see.
separates the film from the film and the slow-moving story of the film. That was not enough that despite a fast start in its first half, the film turns didactic and discoursed, which tests the patience of the audience. All those who want to see Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan together and bond, are a little disappointed as the film begins like a therapy session in its second half. Despite all this, it should not be denied that the director has managed to get the best out of the entire cast of the film.
On the acting front, Dear Zindagi is actually a film by Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan. After a stellar performance in Udta Punjab, Alia Bhatt once again proved why she is one of the finest actresses of Bollywood with Dear Zindagi. Alia Bhatt’s acting is getting better after each of her films. The film is a must watch for the beauty with which Alia has poured her emotions into her character. Alia Bhatt plays the character of a naive and sincere girl in the film. Alia Bhatt with all her co-stars including Kunal Kapoor, Ali Zafar, Angad Bedi or Aditya Roy Kapur has amazing on-screen chemistry. But, what grabs the audience’s attention the most on screen is Alia Bhatt’s impeccable chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan. On the other hand Shahrukh Khan has done full justice to his character. What makes Dear Zindagi different from Shah Rukh Khan starrer films is that despite being a hero, Shah Rukh Khan’s character does not dominate Alia Bhatt’s character at all. And this is the aspect that works a lot in favor of the film. Can’t deny the fact that Dear Zindagi definitely has Shah Rukh Khan
Ka is the best and most mature role after Chak De India. Rest of the cast (Kunal Kapoor, Ali Zafar, Angad Bedi, Ira Dubey and Aditya Roy Kapur) are well suited for their roles.
Dear Zindagi doesn’t have any excellent music (Amit Trivedi) of any kind, the songs of the film don’t help the film move forward and don’t act as a hindrance to the scene. The film’s background score (Amit Trivedi) does a decent job of taking the film forward. The flip side of Dear Zindagi is that the film is devoid of chartbuster music, romance and action. And so this film in the absence of all this, where the audience of small towns and cities will feel that this film is deprived of any such entertainment.
The cinematography (Lakshman Utekar) of the film is good, but the editing (Himanti Sarkar) could have been stricter after the interval.
Overall, Dear Zindagi is a glimpse into today’s life about the challenges faced by the slow-paced, mind-blowing, fast-changing landscape of today’s generation of girls. At the box office, the film will attract only a certain segment of the multiplex audience due to its lack of entertainment as well as its complex and difficult subject matter. Hence the film will struggle at the box office.
