The film industry was being targeted continuously for the last 4 months. The image of Bollywood industry was being shown in a bad way by some media houses. Against which the entire Bollywood united, as a result, a total of 38 (34 production houses and 4 institutions) targeted 2 media houses for maligning the image of Bollywood and filed a petition against them in the Delhi High Court. Recently, a producer-director, who has given many blockbuster films in recent times, gave inside information on the condition of anonymity.
It was not easy to unite Bollywood stars
The filmmaker said, “For now we all have decided to remain completely silent about this lawsuit. Actually we were preparing for this legal action for a month. And now that this lawsuit has been filed, we all want to stay away from all media interaction till the next step.”
So what will be your next step? “That’s the problem we haven’t thought about yet. After filing the petition in the court, we together did not plan anything about its next step on video conference. To be honest, we had filed this petition without thinking. And now for the next step, we will have a virtual meeting in the coming weeks.”
What happened that led you to take legal action against Times Now and Republic TV? Regarding this, the filmmaker said, “This has been going on for some time but we thought with time these people will stop abusing Bollywood. I mean for how long will you throw mud at us? You will get tired sometime. But no it didn’t happen. The news anchors of these two news channels kept on shouting tirelessly. But gradually these abusive words became personal and people like Karan Johar and Salman Khan were openly targeted. Then we decided that enough is enough.”
The suit was filed in the Delhi High Court as the proceedings are expedited there. The filmmaker added, “We have to take some action as soon as possible before these news channels use their power to silence us.”
The filmmaker further added that it was not easy for A-listers Bollywood celebrities to be a part of this legal process. “For this trial we needed to involve some notable people from the film industry like the three Khans – Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan. It was not easy to convince all of them. Everyone has their own different views and interests. Apart from this, it was necessary for us to include Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan in this campaign to assure that this legal case is not anti-government, and our case was not a challenge to the government in any way. In the end everyone agreed to be a part of the trial. We have never been so united on any issue before.”
